House Of Representatives To Engage Central Bank Governor, Ministers On Economic Downturn

The House of Representatives is set to host the second edition of its sectoral debates/dialogue on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

This edition will focus on the financial sector, featuring key stakeholders such as the Minister of Finance, Minister of Budget and Planning, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue, according to a statement by House spokesman, Akin Rotimi.

In a communication titled "Notice of Sectoral Debates with Financial Sector Stakeholders," the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Danzaria, encouraged members to prepare contributions enhancing the quality of the debates.

This initiative is part of the House's efforts to promote transparency and accountability in governmental operations, aligning with the legislative agenda's agenda one - 'Strengthening Good Governance.'

Commencing in November 2023 with a focus on security agencies, the sectoral debate series aims to strengthen legislative oversight of key government agencies, foster smooth legislative-executive relationships, and address economic challenges hindering growth

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas emphasized the gravity of the country's economic situation and announced the engagement with the finance sector to assess the nation's readiness for budget implementation.

This dialogue series reflects the House's commitment to addressing critical issues and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to enhance governance and economic stability.
