Sierra Leone Police Working On Extraditing ‘Killaboi’ To Nigeria Over Girlfriend's Murder

A major breakthrough has occurred in the case of Augusta Osedion, a 21-year-old undergraduate student, who was tragically murdered in their residence at Oral Estate, Ikota in Ajah, Lagos. The prime suspect, Best Nnanyereugo Benjamin, who had been on the run since the incident, has been apprehended in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone authorities, in response to a request from Nigeria's National Central Bureau (NCB), successfully arrested and detained Best Benjamin Nnanyereugo at Leads Hotel in Freetown on Friday, October 20th, 2023. Nnanyereugo, who is currently in custody, had been declared a wanted fugitive in Nigeria for his alleged involvement in the murder of Augusta Osedion.

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) is now working closely with the attorney general's office to facilitate Nnanyereugo's extradition to Nigeria, where he will face justice for the alleged crime.

The mother of the deceased, Mrs. Cordelia Okonye, took to social media to express her grief and determination to seek justice for her daughter. She revealed that after the tragic incident, she pleaded with Nnanyereugo, also known as Killaboi, to surrender himself to the authorities, but he chose to flee.

Mrs. Okonye went on to recount how she mobilized her global network of relatives, friends, and family, providing them with Nnanyereugo's identifying features, including a distinctive tattoo.

Through this collaborative effort, her cousin in Sierra Leone provided a crucial lead, sighting someone matching Nnanyereugo's description. Before her son and cousin arrived in Sierra Leone, the authorities had already declared Nnanyereugo a wanted fugitive. It was discovered that he had been hiding in the country.

Mrs. Okonye also revealed disturbing details about the case. She disclosed that Nnanyereugo, using a false identity, managed to obtain a Sierra Leonean passport just 15 days after allegedly committing the heinous crime.

With Nnanyereugo now in custody, there is a renewed sense of hope for justice in this tragic case. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies across borders. As well as the relentless determination of Augusta's mother, have been instrumental in bringing this fugitive to face the consequences of his alleged actions.
