Naira Marley and Sam Larry Challenge Detention Over Mohbad's Death

Music artist Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, and his associate, Samson Eletu, also recognized as Sam Larry.

Have taken legal action to contest their prolonged detention related to the tragic passing of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, famously known as Mohbad.

Seeking N20 million in damages from both the police and Lagos magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun, for what they perceive as unjustified continuation of their detainment in police custody.

The suit, lodged before the Federal High Court in Lagos, names the police and the Lagos magistrate as defendants. 

It stems from the magistrate's previous directive to detain Naira Marley and Sam Larry in police custody.

For a period of 21 days following the untimely demise of 27-year-old Mohbad in September.

According to Olalekan Ojo (SAN), the legal counsel representing Naira Marley and Sam Larry the duo is urging the court to affirm that their extended detention.

At the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command in Panti, Yaba, Lagos State since October 4, 2023, amounts to a violation of their fundamental rights.

They contend that the magistrate's initial order for remand was solely for 21 days.

And that this timeframe has already lapsed. Consequently, they are seeking a court directive for their immediate release.

This legal action reflects Naira Marley and Sam Larry's determination to uphold their rights and seek legal recourse for what they believe is an undue prolongation of their detention.
